  17. <p>     Senate confirmation for a second term as Chairman of the
  18. Joint Chiefs of Staff is a virtual certainty, but COLIN POWELL
  19. can expect some uncomfortable moments along the way. Several
  20. members of the Armed Services Committee, led by Georgia's Sam
  21. Nunn, recognize Powell as a primary source for Bob Woodward's
  22. controversial book The Commanders. The Senators will ask the
  23. general whether he truly preferred economic sanctions to war
  24. against Iraq, as the book claims, and whether it was appropriate
  25. for him to disclose the confidential advice he gave to the
  26. President.
